There is a quote on the wall of VooDoo Doughnuts. It states that Americans consume more doughnuts during times of war than any other time. Being in a gloomy frame of mind, and feeling as though we’ve never not been at war, this was just the excuse I needed to pick up a sugary feel good treat.
For $8, Voo Doo will grab you a random 13 donuts, half classic, half crazy. I got a cereal and peanut covered one, and a chocolate with chocolate cereal balls for some of the crazies. On my way to the bus stop I gave away the top most donut,a big cream filled bar, to a stranger. The simple act of being a sugar fairy made me feel better already.
Coming home I snipped up the rest of the donuts with scissors to take over to our neighbors. While portioning the treats into smaller pieces, I discovered that I got more than 13 donuts in my order. Is this a sign that we, as a nation, are in more dire need for donuts than I realized?
Instead, I’ll take it as a reminder that donut love shared is donut love multiplied.

- Not Martha, To Make: Tiny Donuts: The cutest tiniest donuts you’ve ever seen! This was the first time I’d ever deep fried anything and found these very satisfying to do. The dough puffed up immediately and bobbed merrily until it was time to turn over… I highly recommend trying to make little donuts sometime.
- 101 Cookbooks, Baked Doughnuts Recipe: Mention the concept of a baked doughnut to any self-professed doughnut connoisseur, chances are you’ll take some heat. The idea that a baked doughnut can match up to its deep-fried brethren is laughable in some circles. I’ll concede they aren’t the same, but baked doughnuts can be just as delicious - delicious yet different.
- Eggbeater, Doughnuts - Donuts:
Not me, you cry. But you pine. Secretly. Ashamed. Silent. In the dark you struggle with the donut demons. Glazes smile at you wickedly. Mocking. “You know you want me!” Cake doughnuts crumbs can’t satisfy. - Cupcake Bakeshop by chockylit, Doughnuts and Coffee Cupcakes: the cupcakes - they tasted like a latte - sweet and moist with a milky coffee flavor. I enjoyed the end result like it was two desserts. I dipped the doughnut in some of the whipped cream and ate that, then had the cupcake separately. Both were tasty, but I must admit that the doughnut did out shine the cupcake. Maybe it was the novelty.

OH, Voodoo Doughnuts! I just went to this place for the first time and knew I had found a kindred spirit of a doughnut shop. I just did a doughnut review for Seattle so now they’re my major obsession. Top Pot here in Seattle (they sell some flavors thru Starbucks nationwide, but have stores here) has a doughnut called the “Sandcastle” which is slightly “gritty” with a cinnamon sugar mixture which is so-o-o good. Oh, doughnuts. Or donuts, whatever. Just Donut, either way.
(By the way I came across your blog through being fascinated by your name on a comment you put on another blog. I love your style!)
Hi Cakespy,
I always enjoy the sense of humor that can come through in a donut shop- and Voodoo Doughnuts delivers!
Though I have to admit… I think we may have overdosed on donuts this weekend.Ooof
