In the midst of all these new Portland sights and tastes, Sweets and I have found some potential repeatable favorites. This one is from our corner coffee shop, Cafe Destino.
Icy sweet Açaí berry smoothie under crunchy almond granola and topped with smooth creamy banana slices; its a new trick for my breakfast taste buds. A wake up mingle of textures that’s a nice lactose free alternative.
I’ve been inspired to whip this up at home for my now favorite non-dough nut commuter breakfast.
Can’t find Açaí berries? Don’t worry- frozen blueberries will work just as well.
More Vibrant Breakfast Ideas
- Blueberry Smoothie Float: I’ve found a fun way to shake things up a bit: adding carbonated water.
That extra glug of sparkling water adds a little zing to the tongue, and also dampers the sweetness of the finished smoothie. - Almond Nectar: The resulting milky nectar is sweet and heavily perfumed with a vanilla-like caramel flavor from the added medjool dates. Almond nectar with granola is a gimmie!

What a great idea! Acai berries are so good for you too. Can you buy the actual berries at the grocery stores? I’ve only seen the smoothies.
I haven’t found just the berries. I bought a bag of small smoothie packets that I add to blueberries.

Sounds delish. Must admit I have been having booring (but nummy)peach smoothies for the last couple weeks.
Oh, that looks wonderful. I talk about my breakfast smoothie (which I call my ‘nanner for reasons that are shrouded in antiquity … erm … actually, just because I used to use a banana before I expanded into the world world of fruits-of-color!) on my blog. They are a perfect way to start the day and my on-going, adult science project.
I love your ideas of sparking water and almond nectar (almond nectar, how scrumptious that sounds). I absolutely must try.
Cheers!
