I've been surprising myself at how little use my more industrial dinnerware gets at dinner these days. My Japanese and Korean ceramics see much more everyday use, because they help decorate the food.

Although I love my casual Mikasa dinnerware, those plates are rather uninteresting in the face of an ever-expanding artisanal collection. Some people avoid using their one-of-a-kind or distinctive dinnerware items because they want to reserve them for special occasions... I want to use them regularly because they are distinctive. They are crafts: they're meant to be part of our daily lives, not locked up in the cabinet, hidden away.

<blockquote>
Yes- you bring up a good point: making special pieces un-precious. I admit to needing the occasional shake up in that regard.
