Im a little late on this. I am from New Orleans and if you ever go back you simply must go to Brocato's Ice Cream. It is an Italian creamery and pastry shop where they still make everything by hand. Also, I wonder if you liked the muffuletta. I hope you got it from Central Grocery. Further more you should go to Mulate's if you ever go back, it is a quality cajun restaurant. Well, hope had a good time in my fine city.

New Orleans....ate my way through that town in 2002 while 7 months preggers with my (now) sweet William....who is, coincidentally a 4-yr-old-gourmand. Anyway, MUST have beignets and chicory coffee at Cafe' Du Mond. And, crawfish anywhere in the quarter. And, oyster po'boys everywhere! Hope you make it there.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

Sweets and I are currently stuck in snow at Portland, with our car weathered in.

Our "weekend" trip has extended itself... grrrr.
We are camped out at Sweets' Moms house where we just finished playing iron chef with her pantry. :)

Hope everyone is keeping warm and happy!

My sweets and I went there for our honeymoon. We had a great time and most definitely eat, eat, eat. We had the best luck with desserts/pastries. There is a great italian deli across from the flea market/open air market and caty corner to the old U.S. mint that is EXCELLENT! I also suggest visiting the open air market as it is quite fun and a great place to pick up cheap souvenirs! Oh also, while wandering around the French Quarter, look down from time to time and check out the cute water sewer covers. Yes, I know that sounds odd!

Man, you have the most fun spontaneousnesses! (and now I have to pay that word extra.) I've not been either, although it's been on my list for a long time. Have fun and come back with marvels you have found to share with us.

I enjoyed the Hookah Cafe, www.hookah-cafe.com, it was easier to get a table and calmer early in the evening; the most memorable bit of food was the fried pita that came with some dip things, but overall it was yummy (the menu seems to have changed since I was there in June) with great atmosphere.

Napoleon House has an decent muffuletta (and Pimm's Cup, which I forgot to order) and a nice little courtyard; but I heard the Central Grocer on Decatur (900 block I think) was really good--they aren't open on Sundays (or was it Monday) so I missed out.

Beignets (some say must be had at Cafe Du Monde www.cafedumonde.com, others say other places are good and not as busy). Mmmmm fried dough with powdered sugar.

I really wasn't able to do a lot of advance research before I got there but these are places I'd go back to if I ever go again.

Thanks Michelle!
We'll probably do the casual wander thing. These will serve nicely as good tricks to have up my sleeve.
