I am from New Orleans and if you ever go back you simply must go to Brocato's Ice Cream. It is an Italian creamery and pastry shop where they still make everything by hand. Also, I wonder if you liked the muffuletta. I hope you got it from Central Grocery. Further more you should go to Mulate's if you ever go back, it is a quality cajun restaurant. Anyway, MUST have beignets and chicory coffee at Cafe' Du Mond. And, crawfish anywhere in the quarter. And, oyster po'boys everywhere! Hope you make it there. Sweets and I are currently stuck in snow at Portland, with our car weathered in. Our "weekend" trip has extended itself... grrrr. We had a great time and most definitely eat, eat, eat. We had the best luck with desserts/pastries. There is a great italian deli across from the flea market/open air market and caty corner to the old U.S. mint that is EXCELLENT! I also suggest visiting the open air market as it is quite fun and a great place to pick up cheap souvenirs! Oh also, while wandering around the French Quarter, look down from time to time and check out the cute water sewer covers. Yes, I know that sounds odd! My sweets and I went there for our honeymoon.
