Fake food totally gets me excited. Sampuru (Japanese plastic food restaurant models) and I could be best friends… must be some hold over from making fake food for my barbies as a kid.
While sampuru is great, what’s even better is if the fake food is a trick that is still edible, like the candy sushi I’ve blogged about in the past. It’s a nice turn on food pranksterism… and sweets are always a nice alternative to plastic in my loki-games.
Tokyo restaurant Mamido’s Burger has won itself a permanent place on my tourist hot list with their fake burgers and fries.
Boasting that it is “The world’s first sweet fast food!” (unlike Dairy Queen and the like…?) Mamido offer chocolate burgers on sponge cake buns, fried banana fritter fish fillets with kiwi pickle relish. Those french fries? They’re fried delights filled with custard cream. The mayo is of course cream cheese.
This serves as great material for potential April Fool’s Day snacks!
