The short of it is, we find that it is often easier to grow large numbers of baby fish by "collecting" sperm and eggs from the fish separately and then combining them oursleves to produce fertile fish embryos. Nothing at all like trying to collect sperm from a horse, which was also featured on the Dirty Jobs series. Zebrafish produce eggs the size of flying fish roe found commonly at sushi bars on some of my favorite rolls (I like to call them Nature's Pop Rocks!).
