Music Meme

Thanks to Life Begins @ Thirty, I’ve been slapped with the music meme. However, I’m hoping to evolve it a bit… we’ll see if it gets transmitted.

What is the total number of music files on your computer?

3.33GB. Eeek! And I’ve only finished trasfering three of the 11 cds of mp3′s staring me down at my desk.

The last CD you last bought?

Franz Ferdinand, too see what all the fuss was about.
Groove Armada- the Best of, good booty shaking music

What is the song you last listened to before reading this message?

Soul Coughing’s- City of Motors off of Ruby Vroom

Write down 5 songs you often listen to or that mean a lot to you.

I don’t listen to individual songs, I do albums. And, I also have a difficult time choosing favorites. These are some I’ve historically enjoyed very much:

My Mom and I have a theory: Women keep their hair in the style from the time of their life that they were the most happy. (This is a fun one to keep in mind while people watching.) I’ve done this with my music… I devoured music when my life was complex, tumultuous, yet happy; hence the time of the albums picked as my favorites. Currently I don’t go out seeking music… my life has smoothed out.

Favorite song about food?

As a child I simply devoured Shel Silverstein poems. My Granny would give me Silverstein books with her own little illustrated stories woven in amoungst the poems… my favorite being her story about having a bee stuck in her bathing suit! So imagine my delight when I found a record of Shel singing his favorite poems…including my favorite Eighteen Flavors:

Eighteen luscious, scrumptious flavors
Chocolate, lime and cherry,
Coffee, pumpkin, fudge banana
Caramel cream and boysenberry.
Rocky road and toasted almond,
Butterscotch, vanilla dip,
Butter brickle, apple ripple,
Coconut and espresso chip,
Brandy peach and lemon custard,
Each scoop lovely, smooth and round,
Tallest ice-cream cone in town,
Lying there (sniff) on the ground.

As a child I didn’t know what a boysenberry was or that you could brickle butter, but I felt the anguish of this sad discovery. I always swore that I would wave the 5 second rule and lick the stuff off of the pavement!

However, another cherished favorite is Cibo Matto’s Viva la Woman!

Who are you going to pass this stick to (3 persons) and why?

Santos of The Scent of Green Bananas. Santos has nice sunny photos and a killer project brewing at 1000 Recipes.

Wendy of Earthly Delights. I fell in love upon reading her summery, Erotic Observance Over BBQ, or, Eyeing the Chef for More Reasons than One. She reminds me of the power we have as one who puts food in the mouths of others.

Medialyte, or who shall be forever remembered by my Mom as Pizza/Smoothie Boy… er Man! I’ve enjoyed countless afternoons watching you ply the pizza dough and I love spying on your weeks through your blog.
